  • 1/2 PRICE OVERSHRUNK - Juniper debut lp from Bandcamp!
    Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

A few of the copies of Juniper's debut lp were over-shrunk when they were packaged at the pressing plant.

This means the when the shrink-wrap was applied, and when they heated wrap to shrink it, they left it in the heat a bit too long.

The result is a lp that plays 100% fine and normal, but with an lp sleeve that usually ends up slightly bent (you can see this in the photos).

You do occasionally see records like this is in shops, presented as normal, but we don't feel we can charge full price for these - so, if you don't mind a slightly bend cover take advantage of this 1/2 price sale.

There are only a few copies available.

On black vinyl, on the FABCOM! label.

(All orders come with some kind of freebie, like a Juniper sticker, postcard, coaster or non-LP download!)

Includes unlimited streaming of Juniper via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

Last day of summer, I saw him down the shore We walked on the beach, but I just wasn’t sure Squared off at Skee-Ball, and he got beat On the Mighty Mouse, I flew out of my seat Got whiplash on the bumper cars Rode The Whip and I saw stars He swung the hammer, and he rang the bell Won me a goldfish and I thought that I could tell At the top of the Ferris wheel, that he knew me And when he looked into my eyes, how deeply he could see But I knew that it was real When we went on the roller coaster I grabbed his hand as we went up the hill My heart was beating fast – ooh what a thrill Before I knew it I was thrown against him As soon as we got off I said “Let’s go again” Spent every dime that we had that alright When we were back in class, I’d dream about that night When summer comes again, him and me We’ll be first in line, I can guarantee Cause we were thrown together On the roller coaster

The kids on my corner start a band With funds they made from a lemonade stand They spend all day in their garage Have to ask mom to move the Dodge Heard their guitar has a broken string And they're looking for girl who loves to sing On that corner where the music's coming from Sure hope that song's better by the night of the prom The other kids in the neighborhood Spit and say "that band's no good!" Their hearts don't open to that makeshift sound Yet they're always riding their bikes around The other kids in the cul-de-sac Wouldn’t like The Beatles if they came back But when the cops said "Turn it down" All the kids shouted "Leave our band alone!" The kids on my corner wrote a song It's not that good, but it's not that long Pretty soon they'll write some more Sometimes they still forget to close the door Or do their chores, take out the trash I love to hear to that drummer bash They changed their name to The Misunderstood Hey! I think they're finally getting pretty good The other kids in the neighborhood Spit and say "that band's no good!" Their hearts don't open to that makeshift sound Yet they're always riding their bikes around The other kids in the cul-de-sac Wouldn’t like The Beatles if they came back But when the cops said "Turn it down" All the kids shouted "Leave our band alone!" I've watched them from a distance And now I count myself as a fan I even wrote them a song, this one, Now it looks like I'm joining the band The other kids in the neighborhood Spit and say "your band's no good!" Their hearts don't open to that makeshift sound Why they always riding their bikes around? The other kids in the cul-de-sac Wouldn’t like The Beatles if they came back But when the cops drive by and frown All the kids shout "Leave our band alone!"

released June 1, 2020

To bring her album's distinctive musical vision to life, Juniper and her father, who served as producer, were joined by an all-star cast of pop luminaries, including guitarists Marshall Crenshaw, Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo), Mark Spencer (Son Volt) and Greg Townson (Los Straitjackets), keyboardists Chris Geddes (Belle and Sebastian) and Jay Gonzalez (Drive-By Truckers), and drummers Steve Goulding (Mekons) and Dennis Diken (the Smithereens). Lending their voices to the album are Fountains of Wayne frontman Chris Collingwood and the vocal trio of April March, Megan Reilly and Rebecca Turner, all solo artists in their own right.

While many of the album's songs were written or co-written by Juniper and her dad, they also invited some talented friends to contribute material to the project. They received some notable submissions, including the timeless pop number "Best Kept Secret" by Tommy Dunbar of the Rubinoos and Kyle Vincent, the swaggering "Punk Rock Boy" by Francis Macdonald of Teenage Fanclub, and the witty "Poke Your Eye Out," co-written, specifially for Juniper, by late Muffs frontwoman Kim Shattuck and Cub's Lisa Marr.

about

Juniper New Jersey

Teenager Juniper Shelley has been singing for as long as she (or anyone) can remember.

With the unique mix of punky/poppy songs, and the basement/kitchen sink production style, reverent to ‘60s & ‘70s pop but with a contemporary nod, her resulting debut album is fun, hook filled and constantly surprising.
